Hello again, blogosphere! I have been lurking for a very long time; reading many blogs regularly and sometimes commenting.
After a couple of years of transitions it seems like maybe a good time to start again. Some of you maybe remember me from "Reject Null" which chronicled my life as a grad student: writing the dissertation and finding and landing that first tenure-track job. At the end of that blog I decided to leave the tenure track after reuniting with a long lost love. Since that time I have moved 600 miles, bought a new house, gotten married, helped my husband transition to grad school, and managed to learn how to live in academia on the non-tenure track.
Big changes.
So today... Exception is born....my journey as "a case that does not confrom to a rule or generalization" (according to the American Heritage Dictionary). Non conformity has been a recurring theme in my life and so it becomes the title of the new blog and new chronicles of life off the tenure track.
The quote in the description "the exception proves the rule" is, according the Yale Book of Quotations, one of the most widely misunderstand sayings. I work in the land of misunderstandings (aka statistics) and spend my time finding support of alternative hypotheses so I am particularly fond of the many misinterpretations of "exceptions proving the rule".
So begins the exceptions of my existance and daily meandorings....
